One burner clicks and clicks but will not light. What is it?
The spark is arriving, so the module and the switch under that knob are both alive. Nine times in ten it is the burner cap sitting a fraction off its seat, a port ring blocked after a boil-over, or an igniter tip still damp from cleaning. Lift the cap, check the ports are clear, set it back down square and let it dry properly. If it still clicks with a good flame elsewhere on the top, the fault is at that orifice or the valve behind it.
What does it cost to have someone look at it?
A flat $95. That covers the visit and diagnosing the fault properly, and it comes off the bill if you approve the repair. The price for the repair itself is given before anything is taken apart.
The oven takes forever to preheat. Is the board gone?
Rarely. A cavity that used to reach temperature in twelve minutes and now takes forty has either lost heating capacity or stopped believing its own sensor. On electric and dual-fuel ovens, look for a bake element that glows unevenly or not at all; on gas, watch how long the igniter glows before the valve opens. An igniter that has aged still lights the oven, but it no longer draws enough current to open the valve quickly, and that reads exactly like a slow oven.
The hood runs but barely clears smoke off the back burners.
A hood is rated at the blower, not in the kitchen, and the loss is nearly always between the baffles and the outside air: saturated filters, a damper flap gummed shut, a crushed section of flexible duct, or a make-up air problem in a house that has been tightened up. Wash the baffles first, then watch the damper while somebody runs the fan.
An induction zone drops out under a heavy pan.
That is heat management rather than a dead zone. The inverter under the glass sheds heat through a small cooling fan; once that fan loads up with grease and dust the electronics protect themselves and shut the zone down — always under load, always after a few minutes, and it comes back once it cools. Which is exactly why it gets reported as intermittent.

02465 West Newton West Newton Hill carries large shingle-style and Colonial Revival houses on deep lots, with the village centre below on Washington Street. Kitchens have mostly been rebuilt at the rear of the house and opened into a family room. -
02466 Auburndale Auburndale sits inside the bend of the Charles, mixing Victorians near the commuter rail stop with mid-century houses toward Commonwealth Avenue. Lot access is good, though several streets dead-end at the river with no through route. -
02464 Newton Upper Falls Upper Falls grew as a mill village, and its worker cottages sit tight to the street on small lots. The converted mill buildings above the Charles hold condominiums with galley kitchens and very little room to manoeuvre an appliance. -
02459 Oak Hill Newton's most suburban corner, with mid-century ranches and split-levels on wide lots south of Route 9. Kitchens here are usually original-footprint remodels, where a built-in has been fitted into a wall that was framed for a freestanding refrigerator.
